Call of Duty games have yielded $3 billion in a year

All Call of Duty games combined have generated $3 billion in revenue in the past 12 months. That is an 80% increase from a year ago. The big growth is partly due to free-to-play games like Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Activision does not disclose which Call of Duty game has yielded the most or the ratio between game sales revenue and in-game purchase revenue. However, the publisher says that Call of Duty: Warzone now has 85 million players. Warzone is free to play on PC and consoles and includes optional in-game purchases. The same goes for Call of Duty: Mobile, the smartphone game that has been downloaded more than 300 million times.

The high sales are also due to good sales of full Call of Duty games, writes Activision. According to the publisher, sales were 40 percent higher than last year. The figures are on all call of duty games sold this year. Not only the new game CoD: Black Ops Cold War, but also games that have been released in previous years.

According to Activision, 200 million people played a Call of Duty game this year. That’s an estimate from the publisher and the number also includes mobile games. The number of players is the highest ever for the CoD franchise. November was a record month for number of players and hours played, says the publisher.

Activision aims to keep players engaged by releasing more free post-release content. The publisher does this in the form of seasons, for example Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. On December 10, Black Ops gets a Season 1 expansion
