WASHINGTON — U.S President lashed at an African-American critic Elijah Cummings on Saturday, calling him a “brutal bully” who should concentrate on cleaning up his “disgusting, rat and rodent infested” Baltimore district rather than criticizing the work of American immigration officers on the Mexican border.
“Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the southern border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA.
“As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cummings’ district is a disgusting, rat- and rodent-infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.
“Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings’ district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States? No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!”
These comments by the U.S president came after, when, Kimberly Klacik, a political commentator who appeared on FOX News, tweeted on Thursday about Baltimore saying, “He claims to care about children & their future, however in west Baltimore you will find abandoned homes on every block. Many filled with trash, rodents & homeless looking for shelter. Children live on these streets seen here. This district belongs to @RepCummings. More to come.”
Cummings didn’t sit quite on the matter and responded, “Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors.
It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”
Donald Trump comments were rather harsh and several people are standing with cummings.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski tweeted, “President Trump’s most recent attack on Baltimore and Congressman Cummings is an attack on basic decency. His words and behaviour should have no place in our politics or society.
“I proudly stand with Congressman Cummings, who has devoted his life to public service and delivering justice in Baltimore and the country. He and I will continue working together to build a brighter future for everyone living in the Baltimore region.”
